Work Context:
Cesvi has been working in Haiti since 2009, implementing projects in the field of emergency, children rights, food security and watershed management in the South, North and West departments.
Currently Cesvi is working in Port-au-Prince (PAP) and Les Cayes.
In PAP Cesvi project activities are focused on supporting the House of Smiles, a youth recreational centre in Cité Soleil.
In February 2016, Cesvi started an ECHO-funded project to improve food security in the area of Les Cayes. The project intends to support farmers seriously affected by the severe drought that hit the island. Cesvi has been working with 2.300 households who present a high food insecurity index and a high rate of negative coping strategies.
The goal of the intervention is to link emergency interventions to resilience building, with the ultimate objective of improving food security conditions of vulnerable households affected by drought.
In the recent emergency situation due to Cyclone Matthew Cesvi will respond in support of the population of the South of Haiti with a wide response: food distribution, shelter, hygiene.
Job Description:
The collaboration will start asap.
The main duty station will be in the South of Haiti, with occasional travels to Port au Prince for coordination and representative duties.
The person will respond to the Head of Mission.
Main tasks and duties:
Project management
- Be responsible for the overall project management and implementation, the compliance with the objectives of the project, including budget compliance staffing and reporting.
- Supervise all activities related to administration, accounting, procurement (in accordance with Cesvi rules and regulations), in dialogue with the expat administrator.
- Guaranteeing a constant relation and support to all project stakeholders.
- Guarantee clear documentation of all project activities, through reports and other visibility tools, as required and agreed upon with Cesvi headquarters and the donor.
- Ensure strategic coordination with complementary actions.
- Ensure the elaboration of internal report to be submitted to the Head of Mission on achievements, projects, problems encountered, pertinent developments, and strategic needs.
- Be involved in visibility actions taken by Cesvi headquarters in order to promote in-Country activities and to raise funds accordingly.
- Attend meetings with UN Agencies representatives, EU representatives, local and international NGOs officers, partners, governmental partners, and civil society representatives, whenever required.
- Seek funding possibilities and create project proposals for private and public donors, according to Cesvi Country strategy and the Head of Mission.
Required Competencies:
• Master degree in economics, agronomy, political science, international affairs, or other related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working in foreign countries in emergency projects. Abilities in dealing with donors and partners.
• Proven experience in project writing (from assessment to final presentation)
• Understanding of emergency issues and the organizational goals.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong leadership, supervisory and interpersonal skills as well as experience with NGO procedures (and donor procedures), approaches and operations.
• Communication skills with ability to work closely with local staff, beneficiaries, and partners
• Effective team member.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
• Very flexible and with a positive attitude.
• Cross cultural awareness, sensitivity, and patience.
• Willing to travel frequently in-country.
• Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office Programs as well as accounting packages & other database competencies.
• Excellent knowledge of French written and spoken.
• Good Knowledge of Italian and English
Desirable Competencies:
• Previous experience in Haiti.
• Post graduate qualifications in management, development, international cooperation or related field.
• Skills in developing, delivering and evaluating training for staff members.
